We are focusing our initial fundraising events on track cycling because Los Angeles is blessed with two velodromes; the only indoor velodrome in the US (the ADT Event Center Velodrome at the Home Depot Center in Carson) and the storied outdoor velodrome at Encino.
Velodrome cycling is by far the safest cycling venue one can find: no potholes, no traffic lights, and no automobiles. These velodromes have riding programs for everyone; you do not need to be a competitive cyclist. Many men and women ride there just for fitness, and both velodromes have active youth programs. The ADT Center velodrome has an after school program for middle school and high school aged children taught by former World Champion and Olympic medalist Connie Paraskeven (see LAVelodrome.org for class information).
However, if you have a strong competitive urge and a thrill for speed, you should get acquainted with velodrome riding. And what better way to get acquainted forming a team and riding to prevent prostate cancer deaths. If you live closer to Carson, click the ADT Center image below to visit the center.
If you live in the valley, click the Encino image to view those programs.
